OUR MISSION
Our Mission is to ensure every child experiences the joy and magic of their birthday, regardless of their family's circumstance. We believe that every child deserves to celebrate their special day with love, laughter and the simple joy of blowing out candles and opening a present just for them!
Through our mission we provide a birthday package that includes a birthday present (valued at $75), age-appropriate book, cake, candles, card and balloons, as well as plates, forks and napkins for 10 people!

HOW TO APPLY
If you or someone you know could benefit from a Project Surprise Party package, we’re here to help! Simply click the Apply Now button to get started. Applications must be connected to a verified PSP partner, such as a school, social worker, or community organization. If your referral isn’t listed, please select "Not Listed" during the application process — our team will follow up to verify and potentially add them as a new partner.
HOW IT WORKS
Project Surprise Party (PSP) proudly serves children ages 1–18 who reside in Douglas and Sarpy counties. Children are referred to us through local schools and community agencies who recognize a special opportunity to make a child's birthday truly memorable.
Once we receive a referral, our team carefully shops for and assembles a personalized birthday package tailored to that child's interests and needs. The completed package is then delivered back to the school or agency for the family to pick up — ensuring the surprise remains intact, just as our name promises!
HOW PSP STARTED
Founder, Meegan Vellek grew up always loving birthdays. Whether it was celebrating her own birthday or celebrating her friends! She fondly remembers having "Happy Birthday" sung to her and making a wish before blowing out the candles on a cake made just for her! After having children, birthdays took on a whole new feel. She took such delight in planning and celebrating each of her boys' birthdays!
With a background in social work, the wheels starting turning. After attending an event in the community, an idea started brewing and she found a new passion. Every child has one day that is unique to them...their birthday, but she also knew that there are families in the community who have day to day struggles and may not be able to help their child celebrate.
After wrestling with what to do she took a leap of faith and Project Surprise Party was born! From a crazy dream to a 501(c)3 we are so excited to help children celebrate their birthday!
